KLJ Receives 2021 Engineering Excellence Award

KLJ is proud to announce that the Flood Risk Reduction Project for the City of Grafton, ND has received a 2021 Engineering Excellence Award from the American Council of Engineering Companies of North Dakota (ACEC/ND). The award, which was presented during the annual award banquet on May 11, recognizes engineering firms for projects that demonstrate an exceptional degree of innovation, complexity, achievement and value excellence.

KLJ was hired to provide planning and engineering services to remove the city of Grafton from the 100-year floodplain as flooding of the Park River through Grafton had been a serious threat to the citizens and infrastructure for several years. In 2013, the city experienced back-to-back floods that were only a few inches away from the record flood line, at the time. The City is well-versed in fighting these floods, however they continued to impact human and financial resources.

Over the course of the project, KLJ and the City worked together to significantly reduce the City’s vulnerability to floods. The project was recognized in Category G: Water Resources. All entries are judged based on originality and innovation future value to engineering profession, social economic and sustainable design considerations, complexity and meeting the client’s needs.
