Water Infrastructure Finance and Innovation Act (WIFIA) Water Project Loans

The US Environmental Protection Agency has released eligibility criteria and instructions for application for low interest, long-term loans to accelerate investment into our nation’s water and wastewater infrastructure for the use in creditworthy drinking water and wastewater infrastructure projects.

Eligible Applicants: Corporations, partnerships, joint ventures, trusts, federal, state, or local governmental entities or agencies, Tribal governments or consortium of Tribal governments, and state infrastructure financing authorities. Projects must be equal to or exceed $20 million for communities with populations of more than 25,000 and must be equal to or exceed $5 million for communities with populations of less than 25,000.

Award Ceiling: Loans are based on applicant debt capacity/creditworthiness, as well as project location and type. There is a total of $5.5 billion available for financing.
