Montana Transportation Alternatives Grants

The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) has announced they are accepting applications for 2017-2018 Transportation Alternatives grants. Eligible projects include on and off road pedestrian and bicycle facilities, infrastructure projects for improving non-driver access to public transportation and enhanced mobility, non-motorized transportation community improvement activities and environmental mitigation, recreational trail program projects, safe routes to school projects and projects for the planning, design and construction of boulevards and other roadways largely in the right-of-way of former Interstate system routes or other divided highways. 

Eligible Applicants: Local and Tribal governments, transit agencies, natural resource or public land agencies, school districts, local education agencies or schools or any other local or regional governmental entity with responsibility for oversight of transportation or recreational trails (excluding metropolitan planning organizations or State agencies). 

Match: There is no match required for projects that are on a designated state highway system and within MDT right-of-way or projects that are within Reservation land. All other projects require a 13.42 percent (No soft or in-kind matches are permitted. Cash match is required.) 

Award Ceiling: 1.5 million (not including any local match, state match or local additional funds). Award ceiling includes all project phases, contingency and indirect costs.
