KLJ Receives Honor Awards at the ACEC/MN Annual Gala

KLJ Engineering (KLJ) is pleased to announce that this past weekend, KLJ was acknowledged by the American Council of Engineering Companies of Minnesota (ACEC/MN). The project teams on the CSAH 92/TH 12 Intersection Improvements and TH 60 Corridor Study were recognized with Honor Awards at ACEC/MN’s annual Engineering Excellence Awards (EEA) gala in Minneapolis, MN.

Highway 12 in Independence, MN was labeled high risk regarding fatal and serious injury crashes. In 2019, Hennepin County hired KLJ to lead the CSAH 92 and TH 12 intersection improvement project. The project included safety improvements at two locations where County Road 92 intersects with Highway 12. KLJ’s role included survey, traffic and alternatives analysis, design, environmental documentation, permitting, and an extensive public engagement process. KLJ’s alternatives aimed to improve safety and mobility. The selected alternative included a grade separation of CSAH 92 and the Burlington Northern Santa Fe (BNSF) Railroad track, with a hybrid roundabout providing access to CSAH 92. Ultimately the improvements were successful and were a result of both a collaborative engagement process and design efforts.

The TH 60 Corridor Study accommodated all modes of transportation, encouraged pedestrian and bicycle movements, and sustained the support of the community. The study, completed in partnership with the City of Windom and the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) District 7, helps shape a future reconstruction project through Windom and creates a long-term vision for Highway 60 which will support and sustain existing businesses as well as promote future economic development.

For more than 50 years the ACEC/MN has been recognizing the outstanding work of the engineering community through their EEA awards. The association strives to honor emerging leadership, essential volunteers, and bright students who represent the future of the engineering profession. KLJ was honored to receive recognition for these efficient, sustainable, and important transportation projects in Minnesota.
