Projects > Airports Bison Municipal Airport
Bison, SD KL&J was selected for engineering services in March of 2004. One of the first tasks was to analyze the existing airport pavements to determine a reconstruction plan. KL&J solicited a soils testing firm to core the existing airport pavement and determine the thickness and condition of it, as well as look at the underlying soils. The existing pavement contained severe cracking and showed signs of failure. As a result, KL&J determined that the best solution would be to reconstruct all existing pavements. KL&J also added turnarounds to both Runway 11 and 29 to allow aircraft to safely hold short of the runway while another aircraft could land. Bison’s existing lighting system was also old and outdated. KL&J designed a new MIRL system and controls for the runway and added PAPIs to the runway to help aid pilots in safe landings. The airport also needed a new electrical building to house its new electrical services. KL&J completed the design in the spring of 2006 and bid the project. Construction was completed in the spring of 2007. There were no change orders on this project. |
